Conserving energy and reducing operating costs
In these times of rising energy prices, visitors were particularly interested in the improved ecoLine technologies of the new 3 series. The economical technologies in the present models of this series already save a good 20 per cent in energy consumption. "We have topped this in the new models," explained HOLZMA Product Manager Martin Kress proudly. "We have been able to achieve substantial improvements in the areas of dust extraction, pneumatic system, electrical system and drive technology." The result: in comparison with the previous models, which themselves were already very economical, the energy efficiency of the new 3 series has been further increased by about 20 per cent. This reduces operating costs and saves money.
The new 3 series meets customers' needs
Trade visitors to the HOLZMA Treff 2010 were impressed by the technologies and the flexibility of the new 3 series. This series meets the specific needs of the sector and was well received by customers from trade and industry alike. No wonder, considering that feedback from customers all over the world has gone into the series and contributed to the impressive overall result. "We are only interested in what the customer wants," stressed Kress at the Treff and presented some of the numerous innovations that evolved from suggestions based on real-life situations. These many tiny improvements add up to higher performance and greater ease of use, improved quality and increased energy efficiency. Features that come standard in all the models contribute to this. They include:
- a window at the height of the pressure beam – for a clear view of the rear part of the machine
- 19" touch screen monitor
- cleaning flaps at the front
- clamps with two fingers
- automatic cutting height control
- manually adjustable pressure for pressure beam and clamps
- air tables and machine tables with air jets throughout
- an 800 mm wide first air table
- an ergonomic table height of 920 mm
- encircling, transparent protective enclosure for the HPP models
However, the energy-saving benefits and many of the improvements were hardly discernible to visitors at first sight. Even though the changed look visually emphasises the fact that the saws represent a new generation and underlines the stability and user-friendliness of the models. There is a reason for this: "The 3 series is after all a familiar old mate for many operators, and this should remain so," explained Kress. Customers benefit appreciably without having to adjust their routine to any great extent.
One example of the many "invisible" innovations is the completely redesigned saw carriage. The main saw motor is now permanently fixed in position in the saw carriage and only the saw blade is raised and lowered. Strong vibrations and jolts are now things of the past. The new technology has a significant effect on the cutting quality and on tool life. Many technologies that HOLZMA has specifically adopted from the 5 series make this possible.
The new 3 series also features an impressive range of optional extras. From the "Grooving" option to the bestseller "Power Concept", every customer will find exactly the options he needs for his specific production processes. This is an important aspect for a series that is used by smaller joineries as well as by industrial companies.
- HOLZMA has further extended the diversity and availability of the optional extras for the individual models
- The automatic feed system Easy2Feed, for instance, is now available for both HPP models – and can even be retrofitted. This allows the saw to grow in line with requirements.
- Customers can also choose individual components from the HOLZMA Domino System, for example automatic labelling near the pressure beam
- The saws can be quickly linked to horizontal panel storage systems on a small or large scale – either immediately on purchase of the saw or at a later date
- Many new features in the CADmatic control software simplify and organise the entire workflow
Further highlights from the HOLZMA portfolio
In addition to the new 3 series, there was of course the chance to see many other innovations from the wide range of HOLZMA products live at the in-house expo. These included:
- Storage location management for offcuts
The proprietary HOLZMA machine control software now also controls storage location management for offcuts, which greatly simplifies the work. The HOLZMA Cut Rite optimisation software also increases efficiency and provides greater operating comfort. The teams responsible for developing these two programs were also on hand to answer questions from visitors regarding the software.
- Live in action – the HOLZMA Domino System and Easy2Feed
Feeding and destacking concepts such as the Domino System, the destacking carriage (developed specifically for this purpose), or the semi-automatic feeding system Easy2Feed met with the interest of the visitors and were already in great demand.
- Special topic: systems engineering expertise
Perfection in wood processing requires smooth, coordinated processes and machines. The PRACTIVE products of the HOMAG Group deliver precisely that. Visitors were able to see just how well they work together showcased in workpiece production and the saw-storage combination featuring technologies from HOLZMA and BARGSTEDT.
- Tailored systems
The HOLZMA Treff also provided information on the subject of Systems Engineering, a topic that is becoming increasingly important. The HKL 570 high-tech angular system and the HKL 380 combiLine saw-router combination, now successfully established in the market, were examples of this on show at the Treff. The latter is an ideal solution for fast, flexible, fully-automatic one-piece manufacturing.
- Service from A to Z
The range of information and consulting services offered by the HOLZMA Service Team also met with great interest. The focus this year was on retrofitting and upgrading HOLZMA saws.
